Whoever said disability is not inability was probably referring to Regina Lengamunyak, a superstar beader from Sera Community Conservancy who is both deaf and mute.
Despite Regina being both deaf and mute, this has not slowed her down even a bit. She is one of our fastest and most skilled beaders. She and her sister, Aragae Lebonyo, have their sign language and communicate with rapid-fire gestures almost as quickly as she beads. Her sister helps her to communicate with other group members and the BeadWORKS team.
“I used to pass the women beading under the tree and think to myself, what are they doing wasting their time like that? Later, I was convinced by my sister and joined a group. I am very proud of the money I make at BeadWORKS; it gives me independence, and I feel empowered as I have also learned money management skills.” Regina.
