Stories of Success from UFUGAJI BORA Women Beaders

We recently marked a significant milestone as four of our women beaders, among 293 pastoralist herders, graduated from the Ufugaji Bora Mashinani program. This initiative, supported by the USAID Local Works Program, offers practical skill training to selected pastoralist groups, enhancing their livestock production capacity.

Hailing from diverse backgrounds across 10 NRT Conservancies in Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu, and Laikipia Counties, these graduates displayed remarkable dedication and perseverance throughout their training. The comprehensive coursework covered various aspects of livestock management, including breeding, feeding, health, marketing, climate resilience, leadership, and governance.

Implemented by the Northern Rangelands Trust Trading's Livestock department and funded by USAID Local Works Program, the Ufugaji Bora Mashinani Programme also prioritized gender inclusion in livestock production, with 55 percent of the beneficiaries being women.

These women now not only have income and knowledge from BeadWORKS but have diversified their skills in livestock management, fodder production, rangeland management, and market monitoring. This holistic approach contributes to sustainable livelihoods and resource management in their communities, empowering them to thrive in various facets of their lives.
